LEGO Technic - RC Tracked Racer - 42065 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Play Value I ran out and bought the RC Tracked Racer on the first day it was available. This is by far the smallest Lego set (by piece count) that I've purchased to date. I normally prefer larger sets with longer build times but expected this set to have and abundance of play value. As I had expected the build went very quickly and took only about 2 hours to complete. It wasn't complicated thanks to the clear instructions. Once completed this vehicle is tons of fun to drive around. For me this set has more play than build value. It drives very well on carpet but is harder to control on smooth surfaces such as hardwood, linoleum or tile flooring due to it's increased responsiveness. This set would make an excellent gift for any child that likes to drive remote cars. My only warning is that you'd best buy rechargeable batteries as I expect this is one toy that will be played with a lot and you'll be recharging those batteries often!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set Great set to build, and the car runs perfectly. The remote control doesn't go to far, but it's enough to have fun and fare to the price of this set.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Good set! Fast! Fun! But lack of grip to tracks. Bought for my 7 year old son for Christmas and it is still in regular almost daily use and has not lost its novelty value like so many toys/sets can; which is a very good endorsement of it! I find myself picking up the controls quite a lot whenever I find them lying around and now even our 11 month old has worked out how to make it operate providing much amusement. For a Lego Technic RC I was expecting it may be quite slow but I have to say with some decent rechargeable batteries we use for its 2 motors it is actually quite nippy and agile; much more so than I was expecting... From other recent Technic builds like the crawler crane where motors seem to struggle and clutches slip due to complexity; despite careful attention to leave clearance/tolerance to all moving parts when building. This set thankfully has very simple direct drive from the motors to the tracks and the chassis and body shell is suitable light to give it pretty good performance. With its tracks operating in opposite directions it will spin quite ferociously on the spot for amusing direction changes. It is particularly fun on hard floors where the plastic tracks slide a bit so you can "power slide" around corners of furniture! I was also expecting the infrared control might be a limitation but as long as you are in the same room it seems to never lose signal or control even when it goes out of visibility behind furniture; so the infrared beam seems perfectly strong enough to bounce around in to all the nooks and crannies. There is a slight downside to the shiny plastic those caterpillar tracks are made of. As previously mentioned on one hand these allow for fun power slides, but this also means it is not as good as you might hope at getting over obstacles; which is surely potential fun point of a caterpillar tracked vehicle... For my son, trying to drive it over all the stuff lying on your bedroom floor or constructing assault courses for it with books and cushions etc might lead to perhaps more disappointment/failure than you might expect based on the clearly quite adequate speed/power it does possess. It will generally only negotiate things either quite small, not too steep or which will need to have some reasonable level of grip to their surfaces... You might be able to run over your little brothers toes in barefoot for instance; but try going right over dads foot in socks and you may not make it. You tend to find far too many things you will come up against may just cause you to annoyingly spin your tracks; though you can see you clearly have plenty of power. My son did modify this vehicle by adding 1/2 Technic pins stuck all the way round the tracks to create a slightly mad raised "monster truck" version which skidded around on its studded tracks quite amusingly where surface contact area was much reduced. It would now clamber over some things more successfully where it could now "claw" at them; but the plastic pins would still slip on many surfaces. LEGO! You need to consider making a new part for these plastic type tracks; which is either individual rubber studs that will fit in to, or a small ridge of rubber that will fit across the 2 Technic holes each track link provides... So you can choose to add some climbing/off road capability to vehicles built using this track type should you so wish. I am sure these rubber parts would also find other uses in Technic pin/axle holes generally to provide traction to various transfers/movements or provide a more stable fixed base to stationery models even.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remote control buggy My latest purchase, was looking at a couple other boxsets when I saw this and then I noticed it was remote control as well , so I just had to have it. The build was fun and setting up the electronic part was cool too. Not an awesome remote control car (I used to race them) but for what it is its pretty cool and adds another element to the buggy. Now to go online and build the second option from the website build instructions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value The vehicle is hard to control, but is fun to play with. Good value for its price: - Two M motors (plus battery box and remote controller); - New thread sprockets and tracks.
