Rated 5 out of 5 by from BBQ at its best Really really easy to use, the Smoker keeps a good temp throughout cooking and has decent air flow, and for this price i would most definitely recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Char-Broil Oklahoma Joe Highland Smoker & Grill Overall this is a great bbq especially as the price is much lower than other websites. Assembling the beast took about an hour and half with a little help from the wife. Most is easily put together by one person but when it comes to adding the firebox.... a little help is needed. The box it arrived in was a bit heavy at 89kg so bear this in mind if you are assembling on your own. A couple of issues let it down. The thermometer unfortunately was faulty (however I am happy to say a partial refund was issued) and when I seasoned the bbq there was a patch of paint on the firebox that has fallen off. A quick fix with some heat proof paint....Overall though I am happy with the BBQ and looking forward to smoking a brisket in the coming days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best value quality offset smoker on the web I had been looking for a smoker for some time and been researching the options. All pundits state heavy gauge steel is needed to hold heat but virtually all the "Quality" offset smokers were only available in the USA with shipping costs way too high for me. There were a couple of models available in the UK through different specialist outlets but their price compared to the US cost for the same thing was over double. Then in came George with the Char-Broil Oklahoma Joe smoker - an American mid-range smoker designed for mass market. Not as heavy as the high end units but of good enough quality, with good reviews and at a price that was just way below the competition. I have set up (cleaned and sealed) and modified (Added gasket round the lids and joints plus heat proof silicone round the smoke stack joints) I have further mods in the pipeline (toggle clamps for the main door, extra thermometer, meat probes and an elbow extension for the stack to lower the exhaust intake in the cooking chamber). It is now in my opinion, to be of a standard as good as anything you can find in UK for sub-five hundred sterling (which is a lot less than I paid for the unit including all the mods. It is a well made unit weighing in at around 178 lbs or 80kg but with flaws (easily fixed though) well documented on the web with many articles and videos about how to improve the unit - so loads of support on-line to assist. For instance my first smoke (whole chicken) was a disaster that ended in the bin - but 10 mins on the web illustrated perfectly my error and now I am able to low/slow cook virtually any meat to perfection. Cleaning is a doddle and I have purchased (not from ASDA sadly) a bespoke waterproof cover allowing the smoker to stand outside all the time. Unlike the standard UK BBQ which is a grill - this is really an outdoor cooker and I intend to use it all year round. If you are looking for a serious offset smoker I would recommend the Oklahoma Joe Highland from George.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality smoker for the money Very good materials and simple to put together- ample space to smoke huge joints. So easy to add more fuel without moving the meat. Maintains 225F with the side barrel half fuel of charcoal as you want for smoking. For the money you can't get anything better- very pleased with the purchase. Asda delivered on time and e-mail updates were spot on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice piece of kit I had been browsing for a good while for the right BBQ having already decided I wanted a large smoker type. I saw several of the same design as this but was initially drawn by the weight which told me it was going to be heavy grade steel. I read the reviews and went ahead and ordered. I'm not disappointed. It was too heavy to lift into the house so I opened the box and brought it through bit by bit. It was certainly as expected, very strongly made. Also as indicated on the instructions, a helping hand might be in order which I didnt have but got around by standing the main body on its end and fitting the firebox that way. In my opinion this is the only job where someone could help but it was easier to upend it and lower it into position. I had a quick look at how the parts married up before tightening and also having taken note of some other reviews, bought some fireproof sealing tape with self adhesive one side and silicon sealant. These turned out essential if you want a goos seal for smoking. Putting the smokebox together without fastening, I could see a gap where the two sides butted up. I used the tape all around the bottom half of the box and bolted the top down. This nipped up nicely but I could still see a small gap in places. I then used the silicon to go around the outside of the joins and with a wet finger, smoothed it all down. ( I used black sealant ) It looks good. I bolted the smokebox to the main body again using the silicon as a gasket and again used silicon around the outside join. Once assembled I lit it up to do a little smoke test but could see smoke was escaping from around the lids on both parts of the BBQ. The joins and seals on the small smoke box were great. Not a wisp escaped from there. I used the flat tape again around the hatches, there is a nice little lip where the tape stuck on perfectly. I lowered the hatches again but then noticed one corner was slightly high. A little bit of careful knocking and bending and the hatch then sealed perfectly. I also sealed the gap on the inside between the hole and the chimney pipe. This is quite large if you dont seal it. Once all this was done, fired up again and it burns fantastic. No smoke escape The only thing I would have liked would have been a 2nd thermometer so I could see the temperature differences between the ends as the hatch is noticeably hotter at the firebox end than the chimney end. I might address that with a baffle plate at some point. All in all, a fantastic piece of kit although you will need to tweak it a little to get good joins. Also as described above, when you are using sealant, it's easier to fit the two boxes together when stood on its end as opposed to having someone try and hold it while you fasten. Buy one, you won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great BBQ Excellent for smoking low and slow for a big BBQ or you can you the smoking barrel as a small BBQ too. The racks all come seperatly so really easy to clean in the sink and the wheels make it easy to move about the garden. Great value for money too

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing product I have been looking for a smoker since moving in to my new house which has the garden space for something like this. After a lot of visits to home base, B&Q etc I had almost given up as the units I saw were all thin and flimsy and would leak heat and smoke everywhere. My internet searches showed that to get anything approaching heavy duty would cost a massive amount of money. Untill I saw this on the George website. Every other vendor I could find were charging at least £499 for the same smoker. The price was Soo good I was worried it wouldn't be an original Oklahoma Joe but when it came it had the badge and serial number (not sure why it doesn't feature on the picture). It was delivered very promptly, I received a two hour window and a call 20 mins before they got here. Everything was well packaged with no damage, but I warn you this is HEAVY (which is exactly why I bought it) and it definitely will take two people about forty minutes to put together. I seasoned it yesterday and cooked two chickens for my first ever smoke. It was easier (and more fun) to maintain temperature than I thought and the results were amazing. It leaked a bit of smoke but I've bought some liquid high temp gasket sealant, but it certainly didn't impact on the flavour. A lazy few hours stoking the firebox, having a beer finished off with the nicest chicken I've tasted, I would 100% recommend this to anyone, just remember it's heavy.

The 'tray / table space' at the front of the main part of the BBQ, is it removable? I'm trying to work out if the BBQ will fit into my shed (66cm wide door) if it can be removed. Many thanks

Is it an official OJ Smoker

Hi, just wondering why these do not have the Oklahoma Joe Badge with serial number on the lid like they should...are these genuine Oklahoma Joe smokers? Secondly... why are they almost 200 quid cheaper than any other UK shop? Thank you.
Asked by: Heman468
Hi, I can't say if they are/aren't genuine, but the one I bought a month ago does have an Oklahoma Joe's Smokers badge on the lid, plus a serial number underneath. Good question on the price. To me it's the rest of the smokers at other shops that are overpriced. There isn't a lot of middle ground for smokers in the UK, you either have to buy paper thin rubbish for £50 or get a Yoder at almost a grand. I was getting to the point of importing something from Germany, but when the price of this dropped to £229 I thought it was worth a punt. It is incredibly solid, weighs around 86kg (heavy!) and has a lot of cooking area, I can totally recommend one. It may fall apart in 6 months but right now it's rock solid and I'm very happy with it. I cooked a 2.5kg pork shoulder over the weekend and my cousin said it was the best pork they'd ever tasted.

Oklahoma Highland Bbq, what accessories are included

Asked by: Clive2
Hi, I'm not fully sure what you mean by accessories. Apart from the smoker itself that you can see in the pictures, you do get the thermometer that's shown in the lid, however during a cook over the weekend that was showing around 50 degrees F higher than my digital thermometer. You don't get any tongs or cooking utensils or anything else. But I highly recommend getting one, I've been looking to buy a smoker for some time and buying from UK companies it's impossible to find the same quality of materials for £229.
