I got the BBQ as a surprise fathers day gift for my hubby, and boy was he surprised! :-D It was the reaction I wanted!
He loved it. He made it look easy to put together (with my assistance at times). Hubby appreciated the labeled screws etc. It was assembled in 2 hours. It wasn't until the HUGE lid went on that it went from being a big BBQ into a VERY big BBQ!!! Lol I was embarrassed by the size in our quite narrow decking area BUT the hubby loved it. A proper mans barby!! Haha. So I guess that's all that mattered.
Its a GIANT but its sturdy and a fab design. All you could want. Bring on the weekend:-D light it up!

I actually ordered the wrong BBQ but found out the smaller version was out of stock. I therefore decided to keep this one. When I first opened the box, I was met with about a zillion screws and fixings all neatly packaged but seriously off putting. I therefore called the ex husband and the job was done in a couple of hours with my son in law while I was at work!!! The grill was great to use. I lined the tray with foil, used charcoal bags and found the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. Easy clean meaning this one will be with us for some time. Yep this monster grill is being recommended by a woman!!!!

Best BBQ I've bought. It was easy to construct except that the charcoal/ash tray was a bit awkward to fit. It took about three hours to completely assemble, with the occasional coffee break!
It is sturdy, easy to use and the thermometer takes some of the guesswork out of the cooking.
Once the coals are lit, if you close the cover, the temperature rises very quickly and it may be possible to bake flatbreads or pizzas whilst waiting for the temperature to stabilise for cooking the usual fare, which it does very well.
I would like to see cooking implements, such as trays and clamps, etc., designed to fit the cooking surface. The ones I have don't make best use of the available area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by bennyp Excellent first use
I have only use this barbeque once so far, but I am very pleased with my first experience.
As other reviewers have said, it takes a couple of hours to put it together, but the instructions are clear and precise.
Once built, I was pleased with the overall size. I do feel that the gauge of the metal on the main body should be a little thicker, but time will tell as to whether this is a necessity.
The adjustable height of the coals is superb, and allows very quick adjustments to get the temperature right.
The warming grid is very handy, and the cooking area is just what I was looking for.
The simple-to-remove ash tray is also good.
Overall the whole bit of kit is a good design and I am happy to recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Kbugg Difficult to assemble
We haven't actually used the BBQ yet so can't comment on its use, however the assemble of it took hours...and that was with 2 adults who are generally quite good at this kind of thing. Either the instruction parts were not written down correctly or we were not given the correct amount of particular screws and bults within the pack. We did make do with what we had and it seems to have worked. It looks great now its assembled....I would say if you are going to purchase this have patience, time and 2 people will definatly be needed for assembling the BBQ!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Bob31 Good item, bigger than expected, delivery quite bad
The item was good and assembling it wasn't quick but wasn't difficult either. Almost everything can be done by 1 person - everything if you are strong and used to this kind of things.
It was a bit bigger than expected, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The instructions say "don't feel the whole tray with charcoal or it will be too hot!" - I think they are a bit overcautious here, we filled three quarters of the tray and it wasn't hot enough to cook everything on the grill.
The delivery was quite bad though. We paid to have it delivered on a certain date, but they failed to deliver. We arrange for another day, and they didn't even let us chose the time. If we wanted to have the BBQ the same week that would have been a major problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Liamh31 Very disappointed
Had the smaller big American grill and it was five star amazing couldn't fault it had that for four years. I treated myself to the very big American grill for my birthday just had first bbq and was very disappointed. The cooling rack falls off every time you lift the lid. Even worse the coal tray when loaded with coal leans to one side as it is only proper by the turning wheel does not give you an Evan cook as tray is wonky. Build quality has gone backwards instead of forwards terrible bbq will be asking for a refund get the smaller version.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JJ1973 A man mission completed !
The Big American Grill is like a man's dream, a flat pack BBQ which you have to build and then you can impress your fellow man friends not only with the size of it but the expertise in building it. Instructions are great and everything is very neatly labelled, just a couple of additional comments and it would have been the perfect flat pack item (just something on not screwing some things too tightly as it warps the shape). Anyway I finished it and having spent hours admiring it I am now a bit gutted I have to make it dirty by actually using it ... sad life for us men who love a gadget eh ... but overall a great item and if you love a building mission this is the one for you ! ps I don't charge much if you want me to come and build yours ha ha !
