The first couple days i used it, it worked fine. After a couple weeks, it stopped playing any disk, newer dvd, 90's movie, it didn't matter. It reads the disk for about one minute, then it says can't read disk. I've checked for an update, it has the newest software. I have changed the scan method from I-scan to P-scan and it hasn't helped. It is a nice dvd player, simple yet sleek design, but I'm very displeased with the performance of this dvd player. I don't think Samsung is a bad company, I would highly recommend Samsung as a solid company.

I just got things together after Ike Yes it has taken all this time to recover. My experience with Samsung started out with a 19" Samsung CRT monitor and 32 inch TV not LCD but CRT. Like those items this DVD is a bang for the buck, I have no problems playing all forms of DVDs and plan to get a blue ray player from Samsung soon. In the divorce my other took the TV VCR ect. In this throwaway world all the Samsung products I have been hand me downs. This means that they where still working fine when I upgrade the item.

I so want to recommend this but I just can't. The good things about it are that it's quite compact and looks nice. It plays from a USB really easily. BUT it makes a very annoying and loud sound when playing a DVD. So much so that I exchanged it for another one just in case it was that certain DVD player but it wasn't. The new one does the same thing. It's to loud for me to ignore. Such a shame.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DivXfan Good value player with lots of features
I bought this Dvd player to replace a cheap player that had broken down after several years use. The player I had previously, despite being cheap, was able to play most video formats and I watch a lot of films on Divx so I wanted to make sure any replacement could play at least the same number of formats. The Samsung player does play most digital formats including Divx/Xvid and avi files and can play them from cd or Dvd. So it does pretty well in these areas especially as a lot of more expensive players do not do this. Plus it can play files from a USB device, which is a pretty cool feature. However, I do have one or two minor gripes. Namely that: 1) the USB function does not work on all USB memory sticks (my CNmemory 64Gb data stick does not work on this), 2) the Dvd player itself is a little noisy (you can hear it whirring away whilst the Dvd is playing), 3) I'm not too kean on the onscreen user interface although this is not a major concern, and 4) it does seem to be a bit sensitive to dirt on the disc although it just seems to freeze for 30 secs or so and then moves on a bit.
Overall, despite the gripes I would say its a pretty good player for the money with loads of additional features. I haven't used the cd ripping feature yet, but that in itself is a pretty useful feature if you don't want to have to use a computer to transfer your music to mp3.
I would recommend it for the money.

This cheap and cheerfull DVD player does what it says on the tin. That is, Plays DVD's. The price from asda is great. i had a good google and they where the best. Word to the wise, if you are after a region free DVD player you could be in luck, google the name of this player with 'region free' to find out how to make your player region free after you recive it. it works.
