Easy to see how much water you're about to boil.
Easy to see how close to boiling the water is.
Pretty blue light.
Speedy boiler when first bought - seems less quick now.
Volume is rather larger than is necessary - would be good if there were a smaller version.
Glass seems to cloud up with lime scale quickly - though perhaps it is no quicker than in "normal" non-seethrough kettles.
Poorly designed spout results sometimes in water spillage - may be the result of filter in spout getting furred up.
Lid button seems temperamental about opening the lid.
Hinges on lid broke yesterday - fortunately within guarantee period so I do get a free replacement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by ShelaghC Do not buy this kettle
I am on my fifth one and it has just developed the same fault as all the others. When I pressed the button to open the lid the air was filled with projectile plastic bits. The two halves of the lids just don't stay glued, so eventually the top flies off and out ping its parts. All have failed within months of purchase. Should've learnt my lesson the second time, but I liked the design.
Russell Hobbs, you have had many complaints about this fault but you haven't done anything to rectify it. I have also had two of your Legacy range, but they eventually leaked. You're really not very good at kettles, are you? Won't be buying any more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by beaver Problem still exists
I purchased this illuminating kettle before Christmas 2013 it developed a brown tinge around the base , presumably above the heating element. I returned the kettle to the store it was purchased from who readily replaced the kettle. I now find the problem has not been rectified as the replacement has developed the brown marking, it looks almost like rust.
lt cannt be lime scale, our area does not have it(no need for the Oust then)
Yep and I agree with the other reviews there is a problem with the pouring and the lid.
Shame I bought the toaster as well to match
Would like my money back not an exchange

Rated 1 out of 5 by Kitty1 Expensive, heavy, limescale builds up quickly, spout too small, lid broke
This is the worst kettle I have ever owned, even though it is also the most expensive.
The main reasons for this are;
You press a button to open the lid, but within a few months this jammed, which resulted in having to pull up the lid near the spout, which is obviously hot if recently boiled. It then broke off completely.
The spout is very narrow which makes pouring difficult, and putting water in without opening the lid impossible.
Limescale builds up ridiculously quickly - within a few boils, this not only looks horrible it also gets on to the mesh bit on the spout which makes pouring the water without spilling it everywhere difficult.
Even without water in it is very heavy due to the glass jug.

Rated 1 out of 5 by JoeN Lid sticks within a year, breaks off a few months afterwards
Both my mum and I had one of these kettles. Exactly the same thing happened within the same time scale and on checking the internet I see its a common fault. Limescale builds up on the lid lock mechanism in the lid. The mechanism then jams, usually about a year after purchase depending on use.. tapping the button opens it but flexes the hinges which then break off within a few months. This leaves you with a kettle where you have to take the lid off to fill it a lid which isn't designed to be taken off.
It is clearly a design fault and Russel Hobs should recall them and refund people.

I bought this kettle as I absolutely loved the appearance. The illuminating feature is a real treat and looks amazing when boiling. Unfortunately the lid hinge broke and whilst I managed for a while, I eventually needed to replace the kettle. I looked into buying the same kettle as no other ones appealed to me but after reading numerous reviews, it appears the problem with the lid has not yet been resolved. I therefore could not justify purchasing another one and have chosen to buy from a totally different manufacturer. I am so disappointed as I really loved this kettle.

I had been eyeing this kettle up for some time as I really liked how it looks and saved up especially to purchase this one.
I got home put the kettle on, disposed of the box and went on to make a cup of tea. It was very heavy to pour and I thought I had left something in the spout. as the water was splattering all over the work surface. On investigation I realized the spout size and the shape of the kettle means the centre of gravity on the handle is wrong, very poor design will really only work with a full kettle not good for someone who lives on their own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Alistar Stylish, Cool Kettle
This is the third time I have bought this kettle (fourth if you count one replaced under guarantee).
I think it is a great kettle: It
boils quickly (if rather noisy)
looks cool with it's glass body and blue accent lighting
is ideal for left and right handed use as it can sit on the base in any direction
you can see the water level from any angle because of the glass body.
The only downside is that it will probably break as soon as it is out of guarantee because the lid mechanism is poorly designed.
If you can live with that - then buy it.
