Rated 2.5 out of 5 by 31 reviewers.
Rated 2 out of 5 by Scifi design wanting improvement Easy to see how much water you're about to boil. Easy to see how close to boiling the water is. Pretty blue light. Speedy boiler when first bought - seems less quick now. Volume is rather larger than is necessary - would be good if there were a smaller version. Glass seems to cloud up with lime scale quickly - though perhaps it is no quicker than in "normal" non-seethrough kettles. Poorly designed spout results sometimes in water spillage - may be the result of filter in spout getting furred up. Lid button seems temperamental about opening the lid. Hinges on lid broke yesterday - fortunately within guarantee period so I do get a free replacement. 23 September 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Problem still exists I purchased this illuminating kettle before Christmas 2013 it developed a brown tinge around the base , presumably above the heating element. I returned the kettle to the store it was purchased from who readily replaced the kettle. I now find the problem has not been rectified as the replacement has developed the brown marking, it looks almost like rust. VERY DISAPOINTED lt cannt be lime scale, our area does not have it(no need for the Oust then) Yep and I agree with the other reviews there is a problem with the pouring and the lid. Shame I bought the toaster as well to match Would like my money back not an exchange 13 May 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Lid sticks within a year, breaks off a few months afterwards Both my mum and I had one of these kettles. Exactly the same thing happened within the same time scale and on checking the internet I see its a common fault. Limescale builds up on the lid lock mechanism in the lid. The mechanism then jams, usually about a year after purchase depending on use.. tapping the button opens it but flexes the hinges which then break off within a few months. This leaves you with a kettle where you have to take the lid off to fill it a lid which isn't designed to be taken off. It is clearly a design fault and Russel Hobs should recall them and refund people. 13 September 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Expensive, heavy, limescale builds up quickly, spout too small, lid broke This is the worst kettle I have ever owned, even though it is also the most expensive. The main reasons for this are; You press a button to open the lid, but within a few months this jammed, which resulted in having to pull up the lid near the spout, which is obviously hot if recently boiled. It then broke off completely. The spout is very narrow which makes pouring difficult, and putting water in without opening the lid impossible. Limescale builds up ridiculously quickly - within a few boils, this not only looks horrible it also gets on to the mesh bit on the spout which makes pouring the water without spilling it everywhere difficult. Even without water in it is very heavy due to the glass jug. 16 July 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by very disappointed I had been eyeing this kettle up for some time as I really liked how it looks and saved up especially to purchase this one. I got home put the kettle on, disposed of the box and went on to make a cup of tea. It was very heavy to pour and I thought I had left something in the spout. as the water was splattering all over the work surface. On investigation I realized the spout size and the shape of the kettle means the centre of gravity on the handle is wrong, very poor design will really only work with a full kettle not good for someone who lives on their own. 15 March 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Faulty I have always relied upon Russell Hobbs products and bought this kettle because it was simple, apparently well made and very good looking. Sadly, less than 8 months down the line the lid has just fallen off. Like so many of these button release kettles the hinge joints and springs simple are not if sufficient quality. It is now about the fourth Kettle to fail in so many years and it is clear that I should have followed my first wish which was to by a product with NO plastic moving parts. What a shame. 29 December 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Nice design and nice price but poorly made. Bought this kettle just over a year ago as I very much liked the clear design and the led lights. Have been very happy with the kettle, yes it shows lime scale but with a clear glass kettle you are bound to be more aware of that. However today, after just over 13 months of use, the lid has snapped off when closed. The kettle was not used heavy headedly but still it has broken. Looking online for a new kettle I see dozens of people with the same broken lid issue happening at about the year of ownership period. Very disappointing as it seems as if the kettle is built to fail just outside its warranty. As said it is disappointing as looking for a new kettle now this is still one of the nicer designs I can find. But I won't be buying another of this make or brand as I have little faith in the quality. 23 October 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by LID COMES APART This product looks great and especially like the blue light when boiling. However the two halves of the plastic lid come apart at the point where the screws hold them together. It seems the plastic just deteriorates over time and eventually the two halves of the lid separate. I have reported this problem to customer support and they had no hesitation is sending a replacement kettle out to me. I hope the design of the lid has been modified to stop this happening 20 December 2013
