'My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.'
Auggie wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things - eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside. But ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids aren't stared at wherever they go.
Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he's being sent to a real school - and he's dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted - but can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?
WONDER is a funny, frank, astonishingly moving debut to read in one sitting, pass on to others, and remember long after the final page.
Rated 5 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by a very good read (I am not 'disapponted'-ASDA's error and incorrectly spelt at that) Since my 7 year old son recently found a passion for reading, i thought i would buy this thought-provoking book for him. I have read it and i enjoyed it. He has not finished it yet but is enjoying it also. My son is home educated so this book helps in some ways to prepare him for what school would be like, were he to attend at some point. It touches upon bullying to a degree and helps build my child's moral character and better him as a person. We have had many discussions relating to what he has read so far and have learned lots from it. I am looking forward to this book becoming a favourite in our household and to us reading it together again and again. I recommend this book as it is insightful, funny and informative. 09 July 2014
