Rated 4 out of 5 by It's Cold in Lake Town! The town is constructed entirely of wood and stands upon wooden pillars sunk into the bed of the Long Lake, south of the Lonely Mountain and east of Mirkwood. It seems that the town's prosperity is built on trade between the Men, Elves & Dwarfs. Pros - The boat is very fun to make and good recreation from the movie - Comes with Bard and Master of Lake Town - The small detail of snow is a nice touch. - Captures the feel from the film Cons - Could have come with more than one guard and perhaps orcs. - More detail within the buildings. 27 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by "To Arms,The Dragon is coming!" To be honest I have read the books but not watched the movies so I don't really know what's going on here. The boat is a fairly easy build only difficulty being the attaching of the string.Catapult is a nice little function. The sort of armory building is a nice build and I particularly like the weapon rack with morning star, long sword,And short sword. The passage way has one gripe, the fish goes flying in all directions. The large house/ prison is pretty interesting with it's rooftop catapult and beautiful architecture all over. The prison is nothing fancy but the escape function is a nice touch. The lake master has a greedy look on one side of his face and a surprised expression on the other. His robes look.....interesting.The guard has nice printing on the front and a nice helm.I was kind of disappointed in Thorin with a plain blue shirt and a rope belt.Bilbo is as normal with ring and sting.I got a free poster along with this and am a satisfied customer. 17 December 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by THe great Lake-Town Chase This set could have been better but it was still pretty good. Pros: 1. detailed figures 2. Cool functions 3.Very very nice boat Cons. 1. only one soldier 2. rooms need more detail (They are nearly empty) 08 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by More like Lake-House... Love the set as it looks very similar to the way it does in the movie, but it could have been bigger. It could've included Bard's house and another building as it is fairly small. 02 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good fantasy setting After watching the movie, it is easy to see why a set featuring Lake Town would be produced. The set has strengths in the minifigure selection as well as the appearance of the build. Bilbo is the same as in other sets, however they did have to place him in at least one set for this wave. Thorin is included, although in a more plain outfit than Attack of the Wargs. Then you have Bard, who is introduced here with his large bow. The Lake Town guard will likely be a favorite, especially with army builders. The printing is great on him as well as the Master of Lake Town, who is also unique to this set. The boat is very nice and of reasonable size. You get a barrel, which ties in with the previous Barrel Escape set. There is a small catapult, and two very nice shields on either side. The instructions call for one oar, however an extra was provided. There are two buildings in the set. One is a sort of armory with some nice weapons, and the other is a prison cell structure. A banner with a sticker suggests that it also doubles as a locksmith business. The details are nice, and make it appear as a medieval setting. White pieces are used here and there to represent snow. It does help with setting the mood in the scene. The only thing I would change is to add another large barrel to the set. That way, both Bilbo and Thorin could hide. I am also considering purchasing more fish from pick-a-brick to use with the barrels (if you saw the movie, you will understand the motive). This is certainly another nice and iconic scene from the Hobbit series. 31 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lake Town This was a great set. I would definitely buy it. It comes with: Bilbo, Thorin, The Master of Lake Town, a Lake Town guard, and Bard the bowman. It also comes with three main builds: an Armory, a Boat, and a jail/office for the master of lake town. Thorin has two faces, one angry and one plain, and a short sword. Bilbo is the normal Bilbo, he comes with Sting and the ring. The Master of lake town has a double side cape, (one side purple and the other red) a hat with a plume two faces, one happy and one troubled, and his body is really detailed. The Lake Town guard has a cool helmet and wields a spear. Bard has two faces one angry and one normal, his clothes are nicely detailed exactly like the film, and he carries a long bow. Bard can wear a quiver but the set doesn't come with one. The armory is a nice small building, with a short sword, long sword, and a flail. One part of the wall can be lifted up as a secret passage or hiding spot. The boat is really cool made up with to row boats, it has a sail detail attached to the mast, it also has a barrel for Thorin to hide in. the jail/office is the largest part of the set: the jail docent have much detail, but it has a cool function where you can knock down the wall to rescue Bard. The office has a lantern and has a catapult on the outside, there is a large amount of snow detail on the roof of the buildings. I really liked the set because of the detail and the playability. It's really cool how they added the pieces at the bottom of buildings to give the Lake-Town effect. In all I give this set 5 out of 5 stars. 10 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by "Dragon fire and ruin!"-Bard It really is a shame that Thorin will bring fire and ruin upon Laketown, cause this is a great set! As the medium set in the new Hobbit wave, I really think it is the best! The boat -A nice little boat for Bard and the dwarves in their barrels -An interesting design, made out of two rowboats -Fits two barrels, so you can include a barrel from the 'barrel escape' set -cool little shields on both sides of the boat The jail -A two story house, with the bottom including a hallway and a jail with an 'exploding door', with a small office and a deck on the top floor (for the master) -A catapult is on the deck, and a lantern is in the office The weaponry -Includes a removable weapon rack and a wall that can be lifted by turning a piece on the side -Weapon rack holds a short sword, a long sword, and a flail Bilbo Baggins -This Bilbo is the same as the other hobbit sets, with a double sided face, sting (his small sword), and the one ring -Still, you can never have too many Bilbo's! Thorin Oakenshield -Almost the same as last year's, but with a new body -Also has a double sided face Bad the bowman -Exclusive to this set, and probably the best minifig in this set as well -Features a double side head a an elvish bow The master of Laketown -Exclusive to this set -Features a brand new hair piece connected to his hat, has a double sided face, a two colored cape, and a key -A very detailed body and legs Laketown guard -Features a brand new hat piece, and a spear Overall -I defiantly recommend this set to anyone who likes the hobbit, as it comes with two exclusive minifigs, a really cool boat, and two nice wooden buildings! You should note the blue baseplate from the picture is not included, but can be bought separately! 03 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent set This set is overall very good, and I certainly think it is the best set in The Hobbit wave 2. The minifigures, just like in other lotr and hobbit sets, are great. The Master of Laketown is one of my favorite in the lotr and hobbit collection. He has a nice double sided cape (red and purple) and a cool two-piece hat. The master has a two-sided head, although both faces look almost exactly the same, much like Elrond or Bombur. None of the unique hats in this set are rubber, like Elrond's hair or MoS's helmet. Bard is a bit plain, but still is a nice minifigure to have. The guard is very cool. He has a one sided head and good printing. Thorin has new printing, but I like the Thorin in Attack of the Wargs better. Bilbo is the same Bilbo in almost all the other sets he is in, head printing and all. The buildings overall are nice. The prison is much like the one in barrel escape, with a knock-out wall. The office atop the dungeon is very plain, with only a lantern inside of it. It is also a little bit hard to fit the master in the office. The balcony has room to fit multiple figures. There are very good details on the outside of the buildings, with lanterns and snow. The other building has a weapon rack and a secret passageway. I don't really like the passageway, it is very plain and doesn't serve much of a purpose. The boat is considerably the best part of the set. The boat is much bigger than it seems, with a catapult and a barrel like the ones in Barrel Escape to hide dwarves in. There are cool shields with fish printed on them attached to the side of the boat. The mast is also neat, and the string going through it adds a nice touch. I think the build is not too easy, and there are PLENTY of extras. My set came with three One Rings. Overall, very good. 25 December 2013
