Rated 5 out of 5 by Most Impressed With As an Adult Fan Of LEGO and having many LEGO trains, this one is the one that most impressed me so far. The quality of the design takes it to the next level! I originally was not going to purchase this set, based on the design of the former high speed train set, but I am sure glad I changed my mind! The train is more impressive than what pictures can show. The detail to the nose and tail of the train is superb! It looks amazing running on the tracks. It is hard to believe that I was not going to pick this up! If you have not bought any of the other trains, this is one that you do not want to pass up, It is going to be one of the best train sets LEGO has ever produced! 26 May 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great for Train Enthusiasts My 5 year old son is a train enthusiast, and asked for this train because it reminds him of the high speed trains he saw in Germany. He loves this set. He built it mostly himself in a day or so. My one issue is with the remote being infrared, you must point it directly at the sensor. The signal is quite weak and it's difficult to point the remote at the train as it is going around the track, which makes stopping and increasing the speed tricky. We have rarely been able to get it up to top speed, and the problem persists with new batteries. Perhaps we got a dud? 23 November 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by power trouble The set is great ,cool train. The power... cant get it to work, and I checked to make sure all set up right still no go. so it is a bit frustrating to of built it ,made a trip to store for batteries and now have to get online and do this, and all I wanted to do was go to Lego.com/city for the trouble shooting. So for the price I could of done with out this hastle. the electric connections dont seem to stick to good and the remote is a little confusing. 03 December 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by High Speed Passenger Train This train is high speed as the title states! It was a great build and I enjoy playing with it to date. The only thing that's necessary is more track. With more track you can see the full abilities of this train enlightened. Love it :) 01 November 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by First Motorized Train Set For this being my first motorized lego train set, it is truly a great set. It comes with everything you need to get started if you are looking to expand on your train sets. It comes with a remote, receiver, motor, and battery pack. The design of the train itself is sleek and beautiful, exactly why I wanted this set. Although I would have preferred brick build noses for the train's front and back cars, nonetheless the pieces look sharp on the build. Two of the major cons to this set is the use of so many decals, some decals are so small I don't see a reason as to why they couldn't have had them printed. Also (and this is the biggest stickler), the train itself will get caught on the train platform if the platform is placed on the outside of the track. This is a simple fix, just place the platform on the inside. However, for serious builders that want to integrate buildings and such on either side, this may be a problem, as the train does not take tight turns well with the sleek nose-pieces that are provided. Overall I am very happy with this set as my introduction into the train theme, I am excited to expand on it and incorporate it into my lego city! 06 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic, worth the money (Before you read this, the build time you see is only a rough estimate. I started building late at night and had to finish the next morning.) This is my third train set from the LEGO City theme, and I am definitely impressed. The inclusion of normal straight tracks rather than flexible tracks is welcome, as it makes building long straights much easier. The locomotive units' front ends are a great new design, as they look more like real high-speed locomotives than the previous red passenger train, which had a front more akin to a light-rail vehicle. As for negatives (there are more positives than negatives, but I just didn't list all of them), however, the fronts were difficult to put onto the cabs, so I had to separately attach the cabs after adding the noses. The windows were also a pain to add, with there being several, and I mean SEVERAL separate pieces to place. The stickers were sticky enough to latch onto the front and back locos' fronts when I was trying to place them just perfectly. Other than that, this set is a worthy addition to anyone's collection of LEGO trains. When you see the High-speed Passenger Train speeding down the gray, plastic track, you know that it's money well spent. 05 July 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by A few problems, track too short I have had such a bad experience with this train set that i thought i'd better share my issues so that other people can avoid them! The set when built looks good although there isnt much to do with it for children other than watch the train go round. I agree with other reviewers that the nose part does not fit very easily and i nearly broke it trying to push it together. When i got it all set up, the train would not move on the tracks, it was just making a loud high-pitched sound. After an hour of troubleshooting i finally got it working, but it kept stopping on the tracks and the motor sounded like it was struggling. After a lot of checking and re-building, the problem was the 'Decorative side' part (number 2871) was catching on the wheels and stopping them running smoothly. I removed the parts from the motor and the wheels now run smoothly and the train speeds work as they should. I'm happy now that it is working properly, but it has tainted the whole lego train experience i was looking forward to. I have bought a lot of Lego sets over the last few years and i would say this is the one i have least enjoyed. I have not decided yet whether i am going to keep the set and buy more track or whether i will sell it. 22 September 2014

My son has a lego table with the surface being made of lego base boards. I want to know will he be able to place the track in its oval shape on his table or will he need to use a flat surface?
    Thanks
