A fifth of the wine was aged in American oak barrels for six months to add complexity to the flavours of this wine and hints of vanilla.
This wine comes from the region of Abruzzo in central Italy, an area which stretches from the heart of the Apennine mountains in the west to the Adriatic Sea on the east. The montepulciano grapes are grown on vines which are up to 30 years old in vineyards in Citta S. Angelo in the classic region of Abruzzo.

We often drink Montepulciano d'Abruzzo both as an aperitif and with meals, especially pasta. It also frequently appears as the house wine in Italian restaurants. This example fell short of our expectations so I could not recommend it.
