We are really proud to announce that we have won a Silver Medal for our Extra Special Louis Bernard Premier Cru Champagne Brut in the impressively titled World Championships for Champagne and Sparkling.

Three world class tasters Tom Stevenson Essi Avellan MW and Dr Tony Jordan were the judges and they tasted every single bottle of fizz. Judges Tasting note/description:

Pale lemon colour. Stylish, bright fruity aromas of ripe peaches, with floral scented notes and fleeting glimpses of toast. Fresh, zesty and lively, this Champagne is energetic, with high acids, a refreshing palate, and a nicely balanced dosage. Very long, very fresh, very crisp and nicely dry.

By definition, a Premier Cru Champagne is made exclusively from grapes grown in the higher quality Premier Cru rated vineyards. This Champagne has been made by Maison Burtin, one of the most prominent of the Champagne Houses in Epernay. The grapes used for this blend come from the villages of Avize and Oger (for Chardonnay) and Mailly and Rilly (for Pinot Noir). The blend is composed of 78% Pinot Noir and 22% Chardonnay, from grapes grown in 2009, an exceptionally sun-filled season. The wine was bottled in 2010 and spent over 36 months ageing in the Maison Burtin cellars. The provenance of the grapes (Premier and Grand Cru vineyards) significantly contribute to the special quality of this blend. Also, the winemaker did not carry out any malolactic fermentation, which gives the wine freshness and complexity. The ageing of the wine on its lees have softened and harmonised its flavours so that it has achieved its optimum condition.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointing This champagne has a strange sweet apple taste and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth. The bubbles don't last very long. Not recommended 11 November 2015
