An attractive vibrant brambly, blackcurranty character dominates, whilst a subtle, smoky flavour adds interest and soft, oak tannins offer an extra dimension to the texture. A refreshing smack of juicy acidity gives plenty of definition to the ripe fruit.

Araldica produce some of the best Barbera in the world and this wine is made from the DOCG Barbera d'Asti appellation, whereas the Wine Selection Barbera is from the lower DOC area. It is produced from Araldica's low yielding older vines, which produce a rich, concentrated wine capable of ageing in oak for 12 months. Araldica is Piedmont's largest and most progressive co-operative, headed up by Winemaker/Manager Claudio Manera (whose father Livio was the co-op's first winemaker in the fifties) and his wife Lella, also a winemaker. 80% of production is bottled (an extraordinarily high percentage for a large co-operative) at the company's headquarters in the Monferrato hills, home of the old cellars and a new winery.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Very disappointing This wine may have been a medal winner once but this vintage is not so completely avoid, usually such a high alcohol content is some indication of fruit and the barrel ageing added complexity but somehow this wine fails in both of those departments. To put it kindly "refreshing smack of juicy acidity gives plenty of definition" is slightly understating the matter. 05 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by HIGH PRAISE DESERVED I've had this wine before based on a very well known expert claiming it was so good she would serve it at home to guests. I thought it was fabulous the first time and just as good on this occasion. Pity there's no screwcap. 29 December 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Good Wine As I had previously sampled this product from an in-store purchase, I knew it was of excellent quality and I was in no way disappointed with my on-line purchase. Delivery was also first class. 23 November 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Red Wine Surprisingly nice tasting wine, very good value for money. Drinkable by itself or accompaniment for food. I wished I had purchased more than six bottles on the original order. 13 November 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good value and flavour This wine was a pleasant surprise with a beautiful berry colouring and taste. I will buy this again as it was an easy drinking wine that went well with meat or pasta dishes. 12 November 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very scrummy This was a really enjoyable wine. It tastes becomes even better when left open for a few hours. You can taste the Italian sunshine. A very good find. 30 December 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A cracking wine As usual Asda has come up with a cracking wine at a cracking price. I will continue to make sure that Asda Wine is number 1 on my shopping list 03 November 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great value, excellent quality This wine is just that little bit different. A smokey barrage of juicy delishously dark blackberries. Very drinkable! 08 November 2014
