An attractive vibrant brambly, blackcurranty character dominates, whilst a subtle, smoky flavour adds interest and soft, oak tannins offer an extra dimension to the texture. A refreshing smack of juicy acidity gives plenty of definition to the ripe fruit.

Description

Araldica produce some of the best Barbera in the world and this wine is made from the DOCG Barbera d'Asti appellation, whereas the Wine Selection Barbera is from the lower DOC area. It is produced from Araldica's low yielding older vines, which produce a rich, concentrated wine capable of ageing in oak for 12 months. Araldica is Piedmont's largest and most progressive co-operative, headed up by Winemaker/Manager Claudio Manera (whose father Livio was the co-op's first winemaker in the fifties) and his wife Lella, also a winemaker. 80% of production is bottled (an extraordinarily high percentage for a large co-operative) at the company's headquarters in the Monferrato hills, home of the old cellars and a new winery.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Very disappointing This wine may have been a medal winner once but this vintage is not so completely avoid, usually such a high alcohol content is some indication of fruit and the barrel ageing added complexity but somehow this wine fails in both of those departments. To put it kindly "refreshing smack of juicy acidity gives plenty of definition" is slightly understating the matter. 05 August 2014
