    Key Features

    • Radial Root Cyclone technology
    • Ball technology for upright vacuums
    • Strong suction at the cleaner head
    • Lightweight and durable
    • Certified asthma and allergy friendly
    • Instant high-reach wand
    • Hygienic and quick to empty
Dyson DC40 Multi Floor is a lightweight Dyson Ball upright vacuum cleaner with the latest Radial Root Cyclone technology. It generates high suction power at the cleaner head, which automatically self-adjusts for different carpet types and hard floors.

    Product Features

    • Radial Root Cyclone technology
Conventional vacuums rely on bags to trap dust and dirt. But when you start to use some bagged machines, dust can clog the tiny holes in the bag. Some ordinary bagless vacuums work in a similar way. They use a central filter to trap fine dust, which can clog too. Suction drops, leaving dust and dirt behind in your home. Dyson's patented cyclone technology captures more dirt than any other cyclone. In Radial Root Cyclone technology remodeled airflows maximize suction power. Improved flow efficiency reduces turbulence and preserves air pressure, so more microscopic particles are extracted by the inner cyclones. These refinements help remove more dust, allergens and pet hair from the home.
    • Ball technology for upright vacuums
Dyson Ball uprights ride on a ball, which pivots on the spot so you can steer with a turn of the wrist. The ball also houses core technology, including the motor and ducting. There's less clutter, so it's easier to clean into awkward places, along edges and around furniture.
    • Strong suction at the cleaner head
The cleaner head self-adjusts to maintain optimal contact with all floor types. It lowers on hard floors to remove more dust and pet hair from crevices and corners. On carpets, the base plate raises or lowers automatically, allowing the brush bar to remove pet hair and particles caught in the carpet fiber. It's designed for outstanding performance across all floors - not just carpets, but the whole of your house.
    • Lightweight and durable
Made from modified blends of materials selected for strength, flexibility and tolerance! Many parts are made from polypropylene reinforced with 20% glass fibers and high-impact PC-ABS. Using these materials means greater strength from less plastic - so the machine is lightweight.
    • Certified asthma & allergy friendly
This vacuum is certified asthma & allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. Dyson cyclones are able to capture microscopic particles including pollen, mold spores and bacteria.
    • Instant high-reach wand
A built-in hose and telescopic wand that can be pulled out in a single action! The wand and hose are engineered to extend to conveniently clean stairs and high places. Tools click-fit to the end of the wand or hose, giving more cleaning options for hard-to-reach places!
    • Hygienic and quick to empty
Emptying the bin on a Dyson vacuum is quick and hygienic. Just press the button to release the dirt. The bin is clear, so you can see when it needs emptying - and how much dust, dirt and pet hair the machine has captured. Dyson vacuums were the first to have clear bins - despite market researchers insisting it was a bad idea. Now clear bins are everywhere (though not all are made from the same ABS polycarbonate as riot shields, like Dyson bins).

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 114 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by DC 40 Multi Floor Cleaner This was bought to replace a DC06 which had finally given up after many years of faithful service. This new machine is obviously constructed using much lighter materials which has its benefits but am not totally convinced that it will stand the test of time as our previous model. The plastics seem quite brittle and am sure will be subject to breakages. Suction and picking up properties are no better than the old model but they were exceptionally good in any case. First impressions are relatively good but as mentioned it remains to be seen what will be the longevity of this model which is a fairly expensive cleaner. I hope to be pleasantly suprised 25 February 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Our last two vacuums have been Dyson that have lasted years and I have been really pleased with them. Unfortunately I purchased a DC40 online without trying it out first. I was so disappointed with the ball system, after using it my wrist was painful - the machine takes a lot of controlling. It doesn't seem as sturdy as the previous ones and doesn't always click back into the upright position. The dust container is much smaller, the cable shorter and there Is nowhere to put all of the attachments. Wish Dyson had kept at least one model that was not a ball type. Fortunately JL were brilliant and exchanged the Dyson for another make which is brilliant. 21 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by DC40 Multi Floor We have been using the DC40 Multi Floor Vacuum cleaner for about tho months and on the whole have been pleased with the purchase. Very straight forward and easy to use, great at getting in to the normally hard to reach areas. Cleaning power is great on both carpet, rugs and hard fllor (ours is wooden). It's nice and light so easy to maneuver about and carry up the stairs. My only criticism is of the build quality, nothing has broken on it to date but it just doesn't have a sturdy feel to it. Some of the plastic parts seem a little flimsy and I wonder about the longevity of the product, only time will tell. All in all though pleased with the product. 02 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Dyson family use. We started with Dyson DC01 and over the years it became a multi coloured model when replacement parts were required. My wife would not be without it. In fact she has passed her advanced driving test with it due to vthe amount of use to which it is put. Moving on to the present time she decided that it was time to retire DC01 and purchase a DC40, which she drives more than ever. Now that we are getting on in years she insisted that we buy a DC24 for use upstairs instead of having to carry the larger machine upstairs for thedaily drive. She is a confirmed Life long member of the Dyson brand. Our daughter is now a Dyson owner also. 21 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by DC40 Multi Floor I like the manoeuvrability of the new Dyson, much easier than my old one. I do not like the fact that you cannot remove the brush off the crevice tool & it is a nuisance that hair gets caught in the little wheel in front of the brushes. I don't think the plastic of the cylinder feels very robust either, but only time will tell. Emptying is easy, though I wish the cylinder held more but anything any bigger would be too heavy for me to carry up and down the stairs. The suction is terrific, in fact it is a bit difficult to pull put the hose as the suction is so strong! The cleaning ability is much better than my own Dyson, but time will tell if it stays like that. 23 February 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by could be better This is my 3rd Dyson, so feel I can comment. The bin is not big enough, and although easy to empty, you have to pull out most of the dirt by hand, which defeats the object of not touching the dirt. The tools are really fiddly to attach and if you have arthritic hands or long nails, the buttons are hard to push. When using the hose extended, the machine keeps toppling over unless you put your foot on it and the hose is very stiff to pull out. I have wooden floors with rugs on and it is impossible to vacuum the rugs as the suction is so great I cannot push the machine over them. Also the machine cannot accommodate all the tools on the machine so you have to store them elsewhere. 20 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good but not better than my previous model My DC40 is a replacement for my previous Dyson. It is a much lighter and compact model. Find it very easy to manoeuvre round and the suction and general performance is as good as I have come to expect from Dyson. On the downside, I had to return one DC 40 because it did not release from the upright position at all. A replacement was achieved quickly and without question, and the current one. whilst it does release, I do not feel is as free as it could be. However, my concern is not such that I need to return it again, and the 5 year guarantee I am sure will action if there proves to be a problem later on. 20 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by DC40 Multifloor we are generally pleased with the new machine which has replaced and elderly but still very serviceable earlier Dyson machine ( now passed to Daughter for her first home ) The new machine seems to have much more suction and is lighter to use but there are several items we miss on the old machine. Firstly the lead is shorter on the new machine so we have to move to other sockets more often, secondly, the bin is considerably smaller so needs emptying more often and thirdly, the latch that closes over the hose when upright keeps coming unlatched when the machine is in use and is very irritating. 26 February 2014
