Rated 5 out of 5 by Gershwin How did I live without it?
Spent a while comparing brands and models and the Dyson hand-held model is definitely more expensive than rivals but......
I took the plunge and judging by owners' reviews, thought this was worth buying. I use it so regularly now that I am a real convert. It is so handy to use this for occasional small cleans and I do use it more often than I did before as it is more of a pain to haul out my full-size machine. I have lots of stairs and find this model so easy and light to use. Great for a caravan too.
My daughter is so sold on it than she has bought one too for her own home (with dog!)
You get what you pay for and this model is worth buying.

after buying the dc34 animal hand held dyson i was soon finding the cleaning of the stairs so much easier ,as well as those quick clean up jobs that used to mean getting the full size dyson out and plugging in before the clean up could begin , now if ,sugar coffee [ground beans ] or instant, or any small amount of other things get spilt its a quick 30 second job , great for those quick hair romoval jobs on furniture too ,dont know how we managed without it ,the suction is great as is the easy emptying , if there is one thing to improve ,,,,longer lsating battery , although it last a good 15 mins would be great to get that little bit more ,

The DC34 Animal knocks spots off any handheld vacuum cleaner I have possessed in the past. The degree of suction is brilliant and makes very short work of clearing up unfortunate spills and clearing up after DIY jobs (e.g. sawdust, rubbed down filler).
This handheld is very easy to empty and filter cleaning is very straightforward.
I have read criticisms of battery endurance. Frankly, I have never found this a problem; if I use the handheld for 3/4 minutes, I pop it on charge. The battery is Li-ion and, therefore, doesn't suffer from the memory problems that Ni-Cd batteries do when put on charge before their endurance is exhausted.

I had read a number of positive reviews about this hand held vacuum cleaner & although it was very expensive, I am very pleased that I bought it. It works exceptionally well & the tools are just brilliant (I was lucky that there was on offer on at the time & the tools were FOC). I am amazed at the thought & design that has gone into such a small item. Most full sized vacuum cleaners don't have this combination of tools. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a small hand held vacuum cleaner. The only downside is the price - this is a very expensive item & therefore is way above budget for many people, which is such a shame.

Excellent product. The cleaner has plenty of power for the work in hand and the recharging time is short so that you do not have to wait all day to use it again nor do you need to run the battery down before you put it on charge. I use this for cleaning up wood chips from wood carving in addition to dusting and normal vacuum cleaning. Using the rotating head it really does clear the hairs up from the cats bed on normal power and then for stubborn cleaning there is a power boost available. The best hand held on the market in my opinion. I would recommend the flexible hose accessory as this gives the extra flexibility.

In my opinion this is the best handheld vacuum cleaner on the market. The rest are not worth wasting your money on. It was purchased to replace a totally ineffective dustbuster we used in our caravan. After several hopeless attempts to remove dog hairs from the carpet, in frustration I decided to take the plunge and buy the Dyson Animal. Although expensive, it's worth every penny. I no longer have to go over and over the carpet to remove dog hairs and the crevice tool is very handy getting into small, narrow caravan places. The Dyson Animal delivers on every angle. The only downside is it's a little heavy to hold in one hand, but don't let this put you off a superb piece of kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Lutnabut Very good product
I bought this as I have an indoor cat who uses a litter tray. This handheld sucks up everything very well including cat hair and is great for running over the rugs to freshen up my rooms between a proper run round with the full sized Dyson. Have not used it yet for the stairs etc so cannot comment on its fully charged battery life but certainly for odd spots of cleaning around the house it is a great time saver and far more efficient than a dustpan and brush. Very sturdy with a good grip, good choice of attachments and the filter is easy to clean. I did have a cheaper smaller version made by another company which lasted a few years but simply did not have the suction power of a Dyson.

Having had a dyson DC14 for a number of years now, we felt it would be difficult to improve on what we had with a handheld, how wrong we were this little marvel gives the same level of suction as our upright, we bought specificaly to clean up after our Parrot but now use wherever its needed in the home (makes vacuming the stairs a joy). Battery life is a bit short so it makes you think about what you need to do befiore starting as the 31/2 hour recharge time realy can be frustrating if it gives up half way through the job. That said a briliant inovation from Dyson, buy one you won't regret it.
