How to Top up your oil
Castrol Magnatec - Technology Challenge
Viscocity is a measurement of the oil's thickness. Take 5W-30 for example, the “5W” is the Winter rating and tells us how thin the oil is when cold, smaller numbers here mean better circulation on start up from cold. The second number, “30” relates to how thick the oil is when the engine is at working temperature, the bigger the number, the thicker the oil film is between all the moving surfaces. However, thicker oil can lead to less fuel efficiency so a balance between protection and efficiency must be met. Some cars need a specific viscosity, some cars can use different viscosities.
It’s important to find out which viscosity your car needs so that the engine is protected properly. You can do this by checking your vehicle handbook or by texting “OIL” and your vehicle reg to 60777*.
Types of Oil
Modern oils are made up of a blend of base oils and additives. The “base oils” can be Mineral, Part or Fully Synthetic. Many modern vehicles have performance requirements which need the better quality Fully Synthetic oils. Part Synthetic oils are a blend of mineral and Fully Synthetic oils. These offer some of the performance benefits, but at a cheaper price than Fully Synthetic oils. Some older cars can use Part Synthetic oils, but Fully Synthetic oils offer better performance and protection all round.
Not all oils are the same
Some oils only meet a certain performance level. Castrol oils are formulated in partnership with major car manufacturers to exceed the performance levels and provide extra protection.
With over 100 years of formulating oils you can be sure Castrol oils are going to give your engine the protection and performance it deserves.
