Castrol EDGE recommended by car manufacturers

We can help you find the right oil for your car

    • Castrol EDGE gives you the confidence to demand maximum performance from today’s modern engines, which require higher levels of protection and improved deposit control.

It’s easy to give your engine the benefit of our strongest, most advanced performance oil yet.

      Benefits

      • Castrol EDGE is up to 40% stronger1 at reducing metal to metal contact when under the engine’s most severe pressure
      • Independent tests also proved that Castrol EDGE is stronger for up to 35% longer2.
      • All our oils give you the confidence to demand enhanced performance from your engine
    • The Maximum Endurance Test

Every drive is a test of your oil’s strength so it must have the capacity to respond again and again to a wide range of driving styles and situations.

That’s why Castrol EDGE has been assessed in the most punishing industry test there is.

In our Maximum Endurance Test an engine is run at full speed indefinitely until the oil is compromised and the engine fails. In the test we used 13,650 litres of fuel, 4 sets of tyres, but only 1 litre of oil3.
Castrol EDGE maintained its strength up to 35% longer2 than a leading competitor; demonstrating enhanced performance under the very toughest conditions.

By pushing engines to the point of destruction we’re able to show conclusively that however you drive, Castrol EDGE will have more than enough strength to adapt and respond.

    Useful information

    Viscosity
Viscocity is a measurement of the oil's thickness. Take 5W-30 for example, the “5W” is the Winter rating and tells us how thin the oil is when cold, smaller numbers here mean better circulation on start up from cold. The second number, “30” relates to how thick the oil is when the engine is at working temperature, the bigger the number, the thicker the oil film is between all the moving surfaces. However, thicker oil can lead to less fuel efficiency so a balance between protection and efficiency must be met. Some cars need a specific viscosity, some cars can use different viscosities.

It’s important to find out which viscosity your car needs so that the engine is protected properly. You can do this by checking your vehicle handbook or by texting “OIL” and your vehicle reg to 60777*.

    Types of Oil
Modern oils are made up of a blend of base oils and additives. The “base oils” can be Mineral, Part or Fully Synthetic. Many modern vehicles have performance requirements which need the better quality Fully Synthetic oils. Part Synthetic oils are a blend of mineral and Fully Synthetic oils. These offer some of the performance benefits, but at a cheaper price than Fully Synthetic oils. Some older cars can use Part Synthetic oils, but Fully Synthetic oils offer better performance and protection all round.

Not all oils are the same
Some oils only meet a certain performance level. Castrol oils are formulated in partnership with major car manufacturers to exceed the performance levels and provide extra protection.

With over 100 years of formulating oils you can be sure Castrol oils are going to give your engine the protection and performance it deserves.

    Disclaimer

1 In a test of the oil’s strength across a variety of engine speeds, the Castrol EDGE range average metal to metal contact is 40% lower than a leading competitor.

2 We asked a third party laboratory to test the Castrol EDGE range using our Maximum Endurance Test and on this test Castrol EDGE was proven to be on average 35% stronger for longer compared to a competitor brand from another major lubricant supplier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by First class service from start to finish! I purchased Castrol oil from ASDA Direct and found it to be an easy and pleasant purchase. The Castrol oil was exactly what I required for my vehicle. I have used this oil before and I found That ASDA Direct were the cheapest and very helpfull in dealing with my purchase. Will definately be using Castrol oil and ASDA Direct in the future. Top class service. Many thanks! 28 October 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by cant fault it I've used this oil many times on various cars I've serviced in the past, and find it does what it says on the bottle. I topped up the oil i on a car i was servicing, which has made a little bit of noise since we got it (and it did have oil in it). However after using this oil, the noise has reduced down now. I believe this is down to the quality of the oil. I remember reading a review in the past that said this oil could increase your power output by 1%. I've started purchasing this oil from asda as it is consistently among the cheapest places to buy this oil from. This service if good, with regular texts or emails to notify of the progress of the delivery which i pick up in store. Cannot really fault it other than potentially adding a next day delivery for no extra charge. 02 September 2013
