Rated 5 out of 5 by marti1967 great value!
Good clear sound quality from the external mono speaker.
Plenty of volume for a small unit.
Battery life appears to be good. Comes with mains lead.
Reception also good.
Clear simple layout of controls.
The interesting thing is that the radio plays a STEREO signal when connected to headphones or an external AUX stereo amp via 3.5mm connection lead.
So plug it up to and AUX socket on your HIFI and you've got DAB quality sound for a bargain price! Superb!

I am a great believer in DAB radio. And quick to moan. But this one is nice. black and the size I expected. Volume distorts at about 17 of 20 volume and un useable at that level. But its good. I connected to some cheap PC speakes and its excelelnt volume for partying. I intend to connect in to a sterio as the quality of broadcast is excellent.
I like the controls as well while some one esle reviewed them as horrible. i found them easy to use and quite nice.
The small display is readable even for my old and poor eyes, and very informative.
The channel setup was easy once i looked at the manual which is low on pages. It tells you exacatly what you wnat and no more, no museless waffleing. The manual actually is simple to understand which is a good additon to the purchase.
Aerial up or down makes little difference as the quality is good and loud, unless you locate the radio close to some thing metal , then with eariel down it loses a little as goes off chanell, so its aerial up if laying on a load of tools. Yes i bought this for the garage workshop but ended up using in the home.
I have now ordered another one as was so pleased, I do intend to use the other adio in the work shop.
Remember I am by nature a moaner so saying this is nice is exceptionally a good guranatee you wont be dispopointed.

Let me just start off this review as just saying I am totally pleased with the product. If you are reading this then you are looking for a either a reason to purchase or not. You will purchase after reading and I don't work for ASDA!!
What they don't tell you is the size of the unit, its just a little bigger than a VHS cassette, maybe half an inch thicker. Weight is approx 300 gramms and 500 with rechargable batteries. If you use rechargable batteries then they will not charge in this unitwith the enclosed mains power supply.
Also, it appears to also use the headphone as an additional antenna so if you do use headphones hopefully in poor areas you will get a better signal. All I could do to test was to insert headphones and the signal stregnth boosted a little. I did just see if this just was an effect of the wire being close, but it did indeed get a little boost when headphone plugged in.
Also, as in a previous review, the output is stereo when listening to headphones.
In use, I bought this to use on batteries in the bathroom, I have a Roberts DAB Sports radio, very similar to this unit but considered the premium brand/unit, i didnt want to use it in the bathroom. I use rechargable batteries and I have no idea how long they will work, so far a few hours. There is no way via the unit to find out the charge. The battery compartment door is awkward to open and close, but there is room for rechargablle batteries. Rechargable batts are slightly longer than regular batts, the springs on this unit are generous enought to load rechargables without a problem.
Up against the previously mention Roberts DAB radio, the sound quality from this unit is what surprises you the most in a good way. The sound is full and rich, a nice warm tone. The Roberts is bright and tinny sounding. It fills the bathroom when set resonably loud without distorting, which surprised me as it is a relatively small unit although I wouldn't ever say it was pocket sized.
The anteena feels substantial. I also can recieve the BBC ensemble of stations with just one or two segments of the aerial up. The Roberts antenna on my other radio feels unprecise and could easily break, this one it does not. Im sure that if abused then it could break so just be carefull. It matches the Roberts for sensativeness as far as being able to recieve week signals, its as good as the Roberts if not on par.
Buttons are a bit analogue in feel, im looking for a better word and i cant find it. Like a really old remote control or telephone, maybe one of the weekpoints, however thats just being picky.
I do think the display could have been better placed and larger, its as informative as the Roberts and the functional menu and the station memories is better thought out than the Roberts.
The mains charger is really small, ive never seen a charger this small. Its functional.
There is no news on when the inevitable network upgrade to DAB+ will happen so this is a good bet and you will never be disappointed. The FM performance is as good as its DAB performance just in case your favouite station is FM only (it could justify a purchase just on its FM performance).

I bought the Asda portable DAB radio for my wife expecting it to be useful for ease of carrying around but not expecting great sound quality or functionality at the low price. We have been amazed at how well designed and made this DAB is with great quality sound for such a small casing. I would recommend this product to anyone.

bought this radio because where i work i get a poor signal, i must admit i didnt expect much because of its size, but was very surprised for such a small radio its got a loud voice.
just the right size to lock away in my draw.
i found all the controls easy to use.
enjoyed listening to music on the radio instead of the useual crackle.
would say its better than more well known makes.
